Autumn Travel Advice

Autumn can be one of the most challenging times of the year for the railway. As leaves fall from nearby trees, they can build up on the tracks and become compressed under passing trains.

This creates a thin, slippery layer on the rail, similar to black ice on the roads. As a result, drivers may need to brake earlier and accelerate more gently when rail conditions are slippery. This helps trains operate safely but can add time to journeys.
