As part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade, the multi-billion-pound project transforming rail travel across the Pennines, Huddersfield station is currently undergoing remodelling and upgrade work which will are set to be completed in early 2027.
Following the reopening of Huddersfield station on Monday 29 September, Huddersfield looks and operates differently than before. The station now has an amended platform layout, reducing the number of platforms to three instead of the previous six. Half of the station has been sectioned off to allow for engineers to continue the upgrade works.
Changes to the station
The three operating platforms have been renumbered as follows:
From the end of May 2026, access to and from Platform 3 at Huddersfield railway station will change due to ongoing improvement work on the station as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade. Access for customers using the stairs will be available via the footbridge at the far end of Platform 2, while step-free access using lifts remains available via the subway. Customers are advised to allow for extra time to board and change between services.
